Call Shreveport Air Conditioning Experts to Look Into Noisy Units

An air conditioner is a complex machine that is made up of many moving parts that work together to make the unit run. It could come to a point where the air conditioning unit will start making strange or funny noises. This is often pretty normal, but if the unit starts to sound differently, however, this is generally a bad sign. In some cases, a noisy unit may be beyond repair, but more often than not, it is nothing that a Shreveport air conditioning expert can’t fix.

The first thing that has to be done is to identify where the sound is coming from. Most of the time, air conditioning noises come from the fan, the compressor, or the condenser coil, but it can also originate from any other part. Before any maintenance work can be done, the circuit breaker must be turned off, as well as the air conditioning unit itself. Only after that can the unit be checked and worked on.

Fans

If the noise is coming from the fan, it may be that the fan is loose or is in need of cleaning. This can be checked by opening the air conditioner cabinet to check if any debris has gotten stuck, or if too much dirt has accumulated. There are some instances where items, such as insulation, fall into the unit and cause the noise. Otherwise, the blade must be checked to see if it loose. Tightening the screw at the hub should do the trick here. Check on the condition of the blades as well. A blade that is even slightly bent can also be causing the noise, and if so, bending it back to normal could fix the problem.

Compressor

The compressor always makes noise, but if it starts getting noisier than it normally is, or if the noise doesn’t sound normal, then it might be wearing out. Likewise, a shift in the compressor’s position can cause clanking or rattling sounds, and realignment and repositioning will help eliminate the sound. This must be done carefully as to not make the problem worse.

Coil Fins

Coil fins may create unusual noises if too much dust has accumulated and caused clogging. This can be fixed by vacuuming with a brush attachment. The noise may also be caused by bent coil fins, which may be repaired using a fin comb.

In many cases, it is difficult for amateurs to determine where an unusual noise may be coming from. If you’re facing this dilemma, don’t lose time in calling Shreveport air conditioning repair specialists, such as those at AccuTemp. Delaying on repair needs could only make the problem worse, and result in higher repair or replacement costs.
